Confirmation Hearing - Background report Minutes: This report was submitted to the Panel following notification from the Police and Crime Commissioner that the Chief Constable had participated in the Retire and Rejoin Scheme.

Proposed Re-appointment to the position of Chief Constable for Cambridgeshire Constabulary Additional documents:
Decision: In accordance with the Police Reform and Social responsibility Act 2011 and following consideration of the information submitted to it, the Panel unanimously recommended that the candidate is accepted for the position.
The Panel determined that the candidate is likely to maintain effective leadership and strategic decision-making.
Members indicated their preference for stability during this period and believe that the candidate is well-suited to ensure this.
Members also noted a desire for improved communication between the Constables team and the public/local authorities.
Minutes: The Chair welcomed Nick Dean to the Confirmation Hearing.
Mr Dean was advised on the procedure for the Hearing. This would involve Panel members asking questions to Mr Dean to obtain information on how he would continue to meet the criteria for the Chief Constable post and his suitability for the role. Mr Dean would also be given the opportunity to ask questions of the Panel on the Confirmation Hearing process.
The Chair stated that the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner would be advised of the Panel’s recommendation by the following day. It would be for the Commissioner to decide whether to accept or reject the Panel’s recommendation.
The Panel’s recommendation would be published onto the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Panel website within five working days.
A focus of the Panel Members in asking questions of the candidate was to reassure themselves of his professional competence and personal independence for the role.
At the conclusion of the Panel’s questions and responses from Mr Dean the Chair thanked Nick Dean for attending the hearing.
When making their decision the Panel expressed their content that Mr Dean continues to satisfy the Panel that he is able to continue in his role.
