Minutes:

The report discussed the Police and Crime Commissioner’s public consultation for a new Police and Crime Plan from July 15 to August 16, 2024.

The survey's key priorities included early intervention, tackling crime, supporting victims, and building trust.

The survey was promoted through press releases, social media, targeted mailings, newsletters, and shared with various stakeholders including MPs and local councils.

Victims of crime were also surveyed about their experiences.

Concerns were raised about low response rates, and the Commissioner urged Members to help further promote future surveys.

RESOLVED:

Tackling Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour - Supporting Community Safety Partnerships in Problem Solving Local Issues pdf icon PDF 351 KB

Minutes:

The Commissioner confirmed that each district and city council area had a Community Safety Partnership.

To address the varying results of these partnerships, the Commissioner proposed redefining their roles and delivery methods. Each partnership area would receive a 'problem-solving' officer to assist with daily community issues. Additionally, occasional collaboration across areas would address boundary issues more efficiently. There would also be a substantial community fund available for bidding.

The Panel thanked the OPCC for the report and the Commissioner's ongoing support for the partnerships.

Short-term funding was a significant concern. The Commissioner stated that three-year funding was the best available.

Designated teams and a victim’s hub were commissioned to support abuse survivors.

RESOLVED: The Panel supports the Commissioner in this work.
