Decision details

Peterborough Builds Back Better / Cafe Culture project - DEC20/CMDN/55

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Waste and Street Scene

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The Cabinet Member:

1.    Approved the allocation of expenditure to support the Build Back Better: Cafe Culture project with £983k capital funding.

2.    Authorised the Director of Law and Governance in consultation with the Acting Corporate Director Resources, to enter into such legal agreements as may be required to give effect to the recommendation above and the development and operation of the cafe culture project in the city centre including a grant agreement with CPCA and any property agreements

Reasons for the decision:

The Council has agreed to provide financial support by way of capital funds to the Build Back Better: cafe culture project to support jobs, investment and enterprise in the city.  The project will be a powerful stimulus that will help businesses in the city to respond to the challenges of Covid19 and help raise the spirits of the city.

Alternative options considered:

Do Nothing:  The Council could choose not to support this project.  This was rejected as it would jeopardise future investment projects and the opportunity to help city centre businesses to  recover from the worst effects of COVID19.

Seek alternative funding: no such funding exists for this Project.
