The Cabinet Member approved the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Corporate Energy Strategy.

The Cabinet Member is asked to approve the Strategy and sign the foreword to demonstrate Peterborough’s commitment to explore, develop and take forward new innovation in the energy provisions within the scope of the strategy.  For the avoidance of doubt, any projects that are within the scope of the strategy will follow normal project requirements, this document is only intended to provide a strategic vision.

Do nothing. This is not an option because:

1.    The significant energy costs to the Council, which are likely to rise in future years, therefore we need to find more efficient and economic alternatives.

2.    Energy generation assets provide income for the Authority.  Maximising the current assets and creating new potential generation capabilities will provide financial benefit for the Authority and residents. 

3.    The recent declaration of a Climate Emergency highlights the immediate need to understand and take action to reduce carbon emissions in the corporate environment and beyond.
