Decision details

To Approve Extreme Weather Repairs Funding For 2019/20 - 2023/24 - MAY19/CMDN/06

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Commercial Strategy and Investments

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The Cabinet Member:

1) Authorised the issue of the following work package to Skanska Construction UK Limited under the Council’s existing Peterborough Highway Services Contract;

£750k p.a. from 2019/20 – 2023/24 (£3.75m total) Extreme Weather Funding for the repair of roads damaged by extreme weather e.g. drought, ice, snow, flood.

Reasons for the decision:

This will enable Peterborough to maintain the roads affected by cracking, subsidence and ground movement. Historically we have relied upon obtaining grants from the Department for Transport when the fen roads have deteriorated substantially. This money will enable us to prevent serious deterioration through regular improvements.

Alternative options considered:

Not to deliver a programme of works: This would put us at risk of severe deterioration of our fen roads which would have a reputational issue for the Council and could harm the local economy. In addition, there is a risk of increased insurance claims and accidents.

Interests and Nature of Interests Declared:
