Purpose:

To approve the awarding of a contract from the PCC Construction Framework for building works at the Thomas Deacon Academy

 

Reasons for the decision:

The Local Authority has a statutory duty to provide school places.  The works proposed will provide the opportunity for the Academy to take additional pupils should it be required in the future. The pressure to provide sufficient school places in the secondary system is documented in the School Organisation Plan 2015-2020. (updated 2016)

 

The proposed scheme of works will provide :

- a staff room 

- an expanded kitchen and dining area

- 3 general teaching classrooms

 

Alternative options considered:

The following options were considered and rejected:

 

To do nothing – this option was rejected due to the shortage of secondaryschool pupil places in the area and in the city and the Local Authority’s statutory duty to provide sufficient school places.

 

Other schools within the city are also presently being considered for expansion including City of Peterborough Academy and Ken Stimpson School and as described in the Updated School Organisation Plan 2016
