Decision details

Implement a daily two-man hit squad - MAY17/CMDN/43

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Waste and Street Scene

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The Cabinet Member approved changes to the street cleansing service to include – lengthsman in Millfield, daily sweeper in the Gladstone area and a two hit squad, at a cost of £187,000 approved in the 2017/18 budget.

Reasons for the decision:

These recommendations will help combat the current issues with littering and fly-tipping in certain areas of the city and take into account the results of the cross party task and finish group and its recommendations.

The recommendations also support the council’s strategic aims of becoming the UK’s Environment Capital and creating strong and cohesive communities by crafting environments that are safe and clean to live in.

Alternative options considered:

Do nothing and maintain the current frequency of services. This would result in high levels of litter and fly tipping and a continued issue with the speed of graffiti removal.
