Decision details

West Town Primary School - SEP15/CMDN/74

Decision Maker: Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and University

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The Cabinet Member:

1.    To approved the funding of up to £1,980,000 to the Education Funding Agency as contribution to the rebuild of West Town Academy and approve the overall cost of the scheme; and

2.    Authorise the Head of Legal Services to enter into any associated legal documentation in relation to this project, including termination of the West Town Academy’s current short term lease and granting of a new long term lease of the site.

Reasons for the decision:

The Priority Schools Building Programme will deliver a new expanded school for pupils in the West Town area.  Without funding for the abnormal costs this will not be possible.

Alternative options considered:

Refuse to provide the supplementary funding.  The outcome of this would be a cancellation of the project leading to West Town Academy continuing to occupy a building in poor condition which the Council would have to repair under the conditions of the short term lease.

Interests and Nature of Interests Declared:

None.
